Films & Books
Books get made into movies because movies are much less time-consuming than reading. Sometimes a movie really covers the content of the book but other times the book cannot be matched. When it come to health and wellness there are plenty of books and movies available for gaining knowledge. This page is dedicated to the books I have read and the movies I have watched that pertain to making the choice to live a healthier, higher quality of life. Please, feel free to recommend your favorites.
For your convenience I have listed links to sites where you may purchase these books and films. Some of the films can be watched online, as well, but they may expire as some point. If you try to connect to a link and it no longer works, please, feel free to let me know. If you do not want to purchase a book or film, you may be able to find many of them at movie rental stores and , quite often, your local public library may have many of these films and books in their system.

The Natural History of the Chicken (2001)
This fascinating film is about “ordinary people telling stories about their extraordinary chickens.” It is an entertaining look into the life of chickens, which allows us to rethink our relationship with this amazing bird. It is a little on the goofy side but is an education that is insightful.
Eggs 101- a video project
A “video” that can teach anyone the basics of eggs, one of the most popular foods. No chicken treatment controversy, just plain and simple facts on eggshell color, how an eggs form and are laid by the hen, and how eggs are processed for the consumer. It even covers the two main methods of egg production; the free range compared to the cage system. It is a kid-friendly, recorded school project and is non-biased. It is more about the amazing supply of eggs we eat each year and how those eggs get to our plates. I do suggest you check your local public library for this one.

One Man, One Cow, One World
Biodynamic agriculture is as simple as “one old man and a bucket of cow-dung.” Modern industrial agriculture, controlled chemical companies, has destroyed the land in India, as well as other places. This film shows us an example of Big-Ag is destroying the environment. Too much wrong treatment of the land has caused desertification, water scarcity, toxic chemicals in foods and water supplies, soil erosion, and massive loss of soil fertility. It also shows us the solution.

Fast Food Nation- the Darkside of the All-American Meal
The book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, published in 2002, sparked nationwide conversation and reform on the food industry. It covers the struggle, danger, and indignities of working in America’s meatpacking plants, the “dirty meat” served by fast food restaurants, and the weight of the costs of working in an industrialized food market. The film is as good as the book.

The film helps us rethink the belief systems served by modern medical and health care establishments.
King Corn-You are what you Eat (2007)
King Corn is an awesome documentary about “2 friends, 1 acre of corn, and the subsidized crop that drives our fast-food nation.” The friends travel to the heartland of America to learn where their food comes from and teach us about genetically modified seeds and powerful herbicides as they plant and grow a bumper crop. They then try to follow their heap of corn into the food system. Here they find some troubling questions about how we eat and how we farm. One of the 1st food movies I watched and one I have recommended ever since.
